Low light does not mean no light. The best apartment plants are the ones that stay patient when the sun only reaches the room for a short part of the day.
Start with snake plants
Snake plants tolerate shaded corners, inconsistent watering, and dry indoor air. They grow slowly in low light, which is normal. Let the soil dry fully before watering again.
Try ZZ plants for darker rooms
ZZ plants store water in thick rhizomes, so they are forgiving in offices, hallways, and rooms with filtered light. The Raven variety keeps its deep color best with a little brightness nearby.
Use pothos where you want movement
Pothos trails soften shelves and windows. Marble varieties need a brighter position to keep their cream pattern, while greener varieties handle deeper shade more easily.
Avoid overwatering
Plants use less water in lower light. If a pot stays damp for more than a week, move the plant closer to a window or reduce watering frequency.
