Monsoon Season: Caring for your Balcony Garden
Monsoon care is less about watering and more about drainage, airflow, and moving the right plants out of the rain before the soil stays wet too long.
Check every drainage hole
Before the heavy rains settle in, lift each pot and make sure water runs through freely. Clear blocked saucers, compacted soil, and roots that have sealed the base of the pot.
Move succulents under cover
Echeveria, cactus, and other dry-loving plants should sit where rain cannot collect in the rosette or crown. A bright covered balcony ledge is better than an exposed railing.
Give tropicals airflow
Calathea, alocasia, and philodendron enjoy humidity, but still need moving air. Space pots slightly apart and remove yellowing leaves quickly to reduce fungal pressure.
Pause feeding
When soil is staying wet, fertilizer can stress roots. Wait until the weather steadies and the plant is actively pushing new growth before feeding again.
